About Player Playwrights
We are a collaborative community of writers and actors.
Founded in 1947, Player-Playwrights is one of London’s longest-established playwriting groups, helping writers develop new work for stage, audio and screen. Over the decades, we have supported countless playwrights in shaping scripts for professional production in London and beyond.
Our membership brings together writers, professional actors, directors, agents and producers, creating a collaborative environment where new work can be explored, tested and refined through regular readings, performance opportunities and constructive feedback.
Player-Playwrights has always remained independent and member-led. There is no hierarchy or gatekeeping — just a shared commitment to developing stronger writing and meaningful storytelling.
At the heart of the group is a supportive, inclusive atmosphere where every voice is encouraged and creativity can thrive. Writers hear their work brought to life by experienced actors, while performers engage directly with new writing in development.
Whether you are developing your first script or your latest production, Player-Playwrights offers a space to collaborate, experiment and grow alongside others passionate about creating original work.
